How To Make A Minimalistic Outfit Look Everything But Boring

A simple white shirt and black pants, a black dress, a grey jumper and skirt. Some days, these combinations will seem endlessly sophisticated, effortless and cool, but on others they might just feel a bit dull or boring. For those not blessed with an office that will tolerate patterns, extensive layering or anything from Moschino Cheap and Chic, there are some pretty awesome tricks to make minimalistic chic look brilliant and not at all boring. Lot of brands often rely on a rather minimalistic and grown-up chic inspired by Celine and Jil Sander. Brands like Cos, Acne or APC have perfected classic pieces with high quality that you will want to wear every day, without looking everyday. Want to look different in those? Try these tricks:

Lipstick – While red is more or less always the statement colour, most seasons also produce different new trends ranging from darker berry tones to lighter coral notes or the current marsala. Wearing a lipstick is acceptable in almost every office and will immediately make you feel dressed and powerful. YSL Rouge Volupte is a good start – you can find your personal colour that you can wear whenever. Their lipsticks are well pigmented and add some moisture to the lips for a more nonchalant look. c

Buy high quality and detail-oriented clothes – Small details, may it be a cuff or a zipper can give a minimalistic look a twist. Brands like Cos, Comme des Garcons and others have perfected this. Silk, cashmere and leather have interesting textures, and styling them together can make a look fascinating without too much colour or extras.

Accessories – This is pretty obvious. Wear some incredible beautiful jewellery from Maria Black or Reo and make every outfit stand out. Next to a perfect carré, jewellery is the easiest way to create (mini) statements in your work outfits. This does not have to be a big chunky statement necklace if you feel uncomfortable with these. A nice bracelet or a few delicate rings can do the trick. Favourite brands currently include: Monica Vinader Iosselliani, and Eddie Borgo

Shoes – If you go low on jewellery and make up, a really really awesome pair of heels can make you look everything but ordinary. This season gladiator sandals and flatforms (still!) will be big favourites. Also, a pair of Prada heels will always be a good investment.
